The Japanese adult film performer Ayaka Mutou has announced her retirement. Yesterday, she shared a statement on social media announcing the decision.
To be honest, I’ve been thinking about quitting this job for about three years now.
As my children grew older and I started thinking about the future, the idea of quitting kept crossing my mind.
I felt confident that I could manage—whether by getting married or finding a different line of work—and I often wondered if it was okay to just walk away.
But I felt it would be unfair to the people who had supported me all this time if I just quit abruptly.
While I kept working partly to make a living, the main reason was the encouragement I received from fans; hearing your voices truly made me happy.
In fact, the reason I didn’t use social media at first was because I wanted to quit sooner.
Part of me hoped to keep going at a relaxed pace for the long haul, but at the same time, I constantly felt an urge to leave.
When you fall into a depression, you lose confidence in absolutely everything.
Your looks, your figure, your face, your personality.
Everything felt wrong, and I spent my days disappointed in myself, thinking, “I’m really no good.”
That went on for years.
Even so, whenever I held a photoshoot event, there were people who genuinely liked me and came to see me.
A casual remark, a smile, or someone saying, “I’m back again”—
Each of those moments brought me joy and made me think, “Let me give it a little more effort,” which is why I’m still here today.
That is why I’ve held on and remained here.
If it weren’t for all of you, I think I would have quit a long time ago.
So, I am truly grateful to everyone who has supported me.
I don’t know what the future holds, but as long as I am here, I want to cherish every single job I do.
