Former AV Actress Minamo Reveals Childhood Solitude and Early Aversion to Kissing
During a recent feature with Bunshun Online, Japanese adult video performer Minamo reflected on a solitary childhood where she felt isolated and lacked close friends. Her social dynamics shifted dramatically upon entering high school, where a major makeover drew frequent comparisons to actress Kasumi Arimura; though today she is more widely noted for her uncanny resemblance to Mitsuki Takahata. The sudden surge in attention from male peers granted her entry into the popular circle she had long wished to join, but the experience ultimately left her deeply disillusioned with men as she prepares to step away from the industry in December.
Growing up, Minamo considered herself an oddball who couldn’t quite fit in with her peers. She frequently retreated into an imaginary world, spending entire days immersed in solo pretend play; often staying completely in character as a princess. Looking back, she remembers alienating other kids with wild fabrications, such as claiming she could fly or pointing to random spots and insisting they were her house.
“Because I acted like that, making friends was pretty much out of the question,” she recalled in the interview.
Her social struggles followed her into middle school. Although she kept her distance from others, she was terrified of being branded an outcast. In a bid to blend in with the popular crowd and project a trendy image, she plucked her eyebrows and adopted gyaru fashion styles. Even so, the underlying feelings of detachment and loneliness remained.
The real shift occurred after her first and reportedly only romantic rejection during middle school. “The boy who dumped me ended up dating someone I genuinely despised,” she explained. “It made me realize that if I actually put my mind to it, I could easily steal the spotlight. That was the moment I resolved to completely overhaul my image before entering high school.”
To capture the attention of boys, Minamo abandoned her vibrant gyaru hairstyle, dyed her hair back to natural black, styled her bangs like an idol, and signed up as manager for the school baseball team. Her calculated makeover yielded immediate results: she became wildly popular, drawing comparisons to actress Kasumi Arimura and securing the male validation she had long desired. Yet, the reality fell short of her expectations. Dating high school boys quickly alienated her, as she found herself repulsed by their overt sexual attitudes. She ended one relationship abruptly after a single kiss left her thoroughly disgusted by the contact, leading her to conclude, “So this is what men are really like.” Ironically, the same girl who once recoiled from a basic kiss would later enter the adult entertainment industry, a field she considers her true calling, where she ultimately rose to the pinnacle of a fiercely competitive market.
