Adult Film Actress Hana Kuraki Passes Away at 25

Reports indicate that 25-year-old Japanese adult film actress Hana Kuraki (倉木華) has passed away.

Her body was discovered on September 12. Although an official cause of death has not been disclosed, the news immediately sparked widespread online speculation pointing toward potential suicide.

A native of Kanagawa Prefecture, Kuraki debuted under the prominent S1 No. 1 Style label in May 2024, maintaining her status as a regular contract creator for the studio. Her fanbase had been growing rapidly across Asia, where Japanese adult videos enjoy substantial popularity; notably, she participated in the Taiwan Adult Expo in Kaohsiung earlier this year in April. Outside of her video work, she released a physical nude photobook in November 2024 titled Flower, a reference to the literal meaning of her name, alongside two digital photobooks and two calendars over the past year.

Days before her death, Kuraki shared a brief, cryptic post on X on September 5 expressing concern over persistent migraines, asking why she was experiencing daily headaches.

While her production agency, S1, has yet to issue a formal statement, they have not refuted the rapid online reports either. The rumor appears to have originated from a post made on Saturday by host club proprietor Sakito.

Additional unconfirmed accounts claim Kuraki was found inside the apartment of Shota Taira, a host based in Kabukicho, though Taira was reportedly not the person who located her. Unverified rumors also suggest she recently sustained serious facial trauma during an incident where Taira abruptly accelerated his luxury car as she attempted to get inside; an injury she had previously documented on Instagram.

Furthermore, sources allege Kuraki was subjected to intimidation and ultimately reached a financial settlement with Taira’s employer, host club group L’s Collection. Although these assertions remain unvalidated, Taira noticeably switched his X account to private rather than issuing a denial. As a top earner, Taira has amassed significant wealth through his venue, where relationships between hosts and adult entertainment figures are relatively frequent due to performers often being among host clubs’ primary clientele.

Performers in the Japanese adult entertainment industry frequently battle severe psychological distress driven by occupational hazards, pervasive social ostracization, and targeted online harassment. Beyond domestic challenges, many face mounting coercion from host clubs and organized crime to engage in overseas sex work, particularly across East Asia. Self-harm remains a tragic reality in the sector, underscored by the passing of 21-year-old adult film performer Nanami Yokomiya in December 2023.
