Jun Amaki set to retire from gravure this summer

A few days ago, gravure idol Jun Amaki announced that she will retire this summer.

Now in her thirties, and still one of Japan’s most recognizable gravure idols, Jun Amaki has announced that she will retire this summer—an outcome many might have expected sooner or later.

It’s a bittersweet moment as fans prepare to say goodbye to one of the industry’s most محبوب and iconic figures.

Amaki shared the news a few days ago alongside her appearance in the latest issue of Weekly Playboy. A digital photobook titled Retirement has also been released, and the announcement has sparked significant attention, helping push the book up the Kindle rankings.

She made a point of clarifying on social media that the announcement was genuine and not an April Fools’ joke. This clarification was necessary given her past prank: on April 1 last year, she also claimed she was retiring, only to later reveal it was a joke.

At the time of writing, she hasn’t publicly detailed her reasons for stepping away, though she reportedly discusses her decision more thoroughly in her Weekly Playboy interview. No exact retirement date has been confirmed yet.

Some initially speculated that her announcement might coincide with news of marriage, especially given the recent wave of celebrity relationship updates this spring. However, no such news has been linked to her decision so far.

Renowned for her distinctive look and strong fan following, Amaki has long been considered a defining figure in gravure. She released a notably bold photobook last autumn and will turn 31 later this year.

Despite retiring from gravure, she is expected to remain active in entertainment, potentially continuing her work on YouTube and exploring opportunities in areas such as acting.
