Mao Hamasaki hospitalized in Hong Kong; suspected of being drugged by a customer while working
Former AV actress Mao Hamasaki possibly victim of drug spiking in Hong Kong; reports consciousness restored after ICU transfer.
According to multiple Hong Kong media outlets, on November 1, former adult video actress Mao Hamasaki—currently active as “DJ Mao”—suffered convulsions and other symptoms while working in the busy Tsim Sha Tsui district of Hong Kong and was rushed to hospital. There is suspicion that a drink handed to her by a customer had been laced with drugs, and local police are investigating the incident as a criminal case. She herself updated her Instagram Stories to report that she is safe, writing: “I have regained consciousness, but on the doctor’s advice I am remaining in hospital for observation out of consideration for safety.”
Suspected drug spiking at a Halloween event in Tsim Sha Tsui
According to Hong Kong media including HK01, after finishing a Halloween DJ event in the early hours of the 1st, Hamasaki accepted an invitation from a customer and moved to another entertainment venue on Mody Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. While taking part in games there she was given what appeared to be a sweet cocktail-style drink or orange juice and consumed it. Immediately afterward she complained of hallucinatory symptoms, then suffered violent convulsions and her entire body went rigid.
Shortly after 4:50 a.m., the manager and others who were with her called emergency services, reporting that “a colleague may have been drugged.” She was taken to the intensive-care unit (ICU) of Queen Elizabeth Hospital. A urine test detected positive reactions for four different drugs in her system. White powdery sediment was also found at the bottom of the glass. Hong Kong police have launched a full investigation on suspicion of the offence of administering a noxious substance with intent to cause bodily harm.
She reports recovery of consciousness on Instagram
Via the Stories of her official Instagram account (541,000 followers), Mao Hamasaki posted a message in Traditional Chinese addressed to her fans: “I sincerely apologize for causing everyone such great worry over this incident.” She explained her condition: “I have regained consciousness, but on the doctor’s advice I am remaining in hospital for observation out of consideration for safety.”
She also expressed concern about any impact on the venue, stating clearly: “I hope this incident will not affect the nightclub in Tsim Sha Tsui. As I understand it, the incident actually has no direct connection with the person in charge or the establishment itself.” She added: “I deeply apologize that my manager, in the heat of the moment, blamed the person in charge of the venue.”
Regarding further comment she concluded: “As the matter has already been handed over to the police, I will refrain from making any further statements about the details of this incident.”
